Perhaps it's that white women feel cornered like mice when they realize what patriarchal society has made of them. It's not just about keeping their man to themselves: it's about keeping their very own 'righteous savior' shielding them in a world that has taught them they need one to survive. Any strong image of independence threatens their perpetually combative status quo (even when they hate the status quo), but especially a confident and strong person like yourself. It's not that they fear their man will run away with you as much as allowing themselves to be seen as a mouse in a cage.
