Population isn't the problem; extraction consumptionism is. As far as nature sees it, humans are just useless extractive parasites, but we don't have to be. There are a lot of untruths to the overpopulation and civilization(city-based feudalism) myths that are based on the prophets of competition (loser production for profit). The useless population didn't just happen organically, and the goal of accumulating wealth in the Caymans can just as well be reversed to accumulate wealth in our soils and communities: the people in the middle will basically do the same jobs: you just have to put everything you have ever been taught about economics and politics up to a mirror.
