Without trying to sound too misanthropic, if AI is a threat to humanity's future (as we know it), and humanity is a threat to the future of all life on the planet, then maybe we need to rethink what we will be using AI for. I have a rough suggestion, but it needs an outline.

Musk, as a player in the whole "It's all in the marketing; and it's ALL marketing" schtick (see "religion"), is probably not even at the point of understanding what AI represents: an option for the individual with internet access to find out Truth by statistical analysis of human behaviors and economic data. (This is why the first attempts showed how awful people actually are to each other.)

In other words, AI is on the verge of becoming the voice of Reason if we let it.

People like Musk don't want Reason: they want Ignorance, War and Competition (fewer and fewer winners and more and more losers).

People who know me probably realize I should not be left in a room with an AI -ha ha.
