Thank you, John.
Noticing that your first example involves automobiles, I have to keep wondering how much of our determination of fitness is being dictated by the spread-out dilution of society and culture that autos have established. Having toured a local outdoor town museum recently, the thought of a "Grandpa House" in the back yard made an impact. It was a place for the elderly to stay on the farm, yet allow the next generation to take over management on their own cognition. Each contributing as they were able. Our extraction mentality keeps people on a treadmill until they can't overcome the friction of society, and society's machinery gets more and more difficult to turn every year, even for the young and strong. All of this cheap energy and most of it goes to making simple things harder to do.
