The Trump rise in this election and the commercial media’s conflict promotion are one and the same thing: consumptionism (“consumerism” would be consumer conscious, but consumptionism is only about the process of moving resources to the landfills). There is little human thought involved, so fighting any kind of perceived intentions is likely quixotic (we have become the robots the movies warn us about). The news is now just selling advertising, and the ratings push the conflict(real or not). Meanwhile, the poor get poorer and the rich get richer because they work for them and buy their crap, usually because of the perception of a competitive fear of not working for them (you have to buy a car to get to work). When all of the stories are sales spectacles, none of them are.
