The dialectic should not be limited to humans, or even present humans, but should question our concept of value as seen by the bacteria, plants and future living beings we affect with our selfish anthropocentric beliefs. The Church, after all, was an aristocracy and came in more on the side of aristocrats (money and power always seem to be acceptable 'proof’ of divine grace) than decency. Decency always seems to be the last resort after the parsonage fund, the stained glass fund, etc, but the creatures of the fields and oceans don’t have the language to stop humans from their idiocracies of beliefs and the actions following those beliefs.

We get the wolves we feed, and religions get a free lunch for blessing the troops.
