The first thing that comes to mind is that there's no such thing as a "non-profit" corporation. "A corporation is a pile of money to which a group of men swear moral allegiance."-Wendell Berry
Whether or not the paper entity is taxed, the pile of money is profiting. Sometimes, other piles of money avoid taxes by giving money to the 'nonprofit' pile. The question is then, "Do people own the pile of money, or does the pile of money own the people and places that people need?" The subset of that is whether places should (or can) be owned by future people instead of present or past people (dynasties, etc).
What are people contributing to the future of the place? What is the pile of money contributing to the place over and above the extraction process? Are the ownership states of mind contributive or extractive?
