The fundamental two concepts are the evolved desire to have control (power) over our own future (next meal), and blind fear(competition for resources).
Humans are supposed to be intentional (according to humans), but our systems are designed and driven to commit suicide rather than contribute to the places we depend upon. Whether in art or mindless consumerism, humanity hoards its anthropocentric perspective to protect itself from real change. Nature's jury is deliberating on whether consciousness is a feature or a bug. The evidence is not looking good.
