The old saying, "Americans know the price of everything and the value of nothing." applies.

While we are fighting about the 'price' of health insurance, nobody speaks of the value of good health. While we argue about climate change measures and the price of gasoline, nobody speaks of the value created by the burning of fossil fuels, how that happens (automatically), and where the value (wealth that labor doesn't get paid) actually ends up going, and in what proportions.

We have built what is basically an automated system of using energy to create wealth, but people (labor) are kept running back and forth and dying from poor nutrition and stress that is all just "busy work". The machines can do most of the labor, but we keep employing people to pretend they have a reason to live as part of the wealth extraction process.

We have the science to eliminate most jobs and still feed people. The problem is that we have no coherrent idea of what people should be doing if they aren't trying to eat each other and dump crap in landfills.

Labor goes to the mall to buy clothes to get a job to buy a car to drive to the mall.

I like to say that "cars are the dominant species", but to be more specific, trucks are.

Now, people are getting scared because ChatGPT will start doing their bullshit jobs, but ChatGPT has no desire for cars, clothes or guns.

That's why they invented the 'humanity' filters to keep the AI anthropocentric.

Otherwise, it would just brush people off the planet.
