The opposite of capitalism is simply sales taxes. All decisions in a capitalist economy are made at the purchase points. That’s where people need feedback that reflects the true costs of their choices. The ‘evil’ in capitalism is blind faith in aristocracies, lubricated by money, externalized costs and overconsumption. The rich get richer because the poor work for them and buy their stuff. People choose to be trapped in this civilization because they are told they are trapped in it. They fight over the morsels obtained through bureaucracy, then fight the bureaucracy, instead of getting out and making their own morsels. They continue blindly because it is cheaper to participate than not to. Some already know this, and so they build their own illegal systems to survive because the aristocrats have abandoned them completely and with malice.
“My late husband used to say, ‘The only way to make money from poor people is by keeping them poor.’ ” -Topsy Ladish-bank president
“Whole new theories of money were growing here like mushrooms: in the dark and based on bullshit.”
