The problem is that the vast majority of so-called 'wealth' is based on human activities that are wasteful, destructive and useless to the future of our grandchildren's planet (automobiles and banks are the dominant species).

The problem with a wealth tax mentality is that the money shouldn't be there in the first place: it represents extraction from a future for which we don't take responsibility.

All overhead costs of civilization itself (city-based society), including the welfare of citizens, the air, water, military defense and education need to be visible at the point where these things are demanded: the checkouts. That's where people choose the shape of the future, it's where the money is counted and the profiteers decide to manipulate the minds of children. It's where all demands are collated and packaged to lobby the government with corrupt campaigns and empty promises for "more, cheaper, faster" junk we don't need.

Sales taxes are less regressive than a dead planet. The rich shouldn't be able to get so much money thrown at them in the first place. Most of the crap that people buy to make them rich is unnecessary.

Food prices are spiking because the Rich provided 'cheap' food through highly controlled and subsidized 'competitive' systems while we failed to pay our neighbors to grow our food and we failed to reward people who stayed on the land to care for it.
