The problem is that we keep the competition between poor and rich going like there's such a thing as 'better' humans. Along the lines of the fishing pole analogy: you shouldn't be giving fishing poles to the poor: you should give fishing poles to everyone, whether they need it or not. Universal Basic without qualifications or means testing. Pay for it with sales tax, so everyone knows the price of buying a life instead of making one. The Have-nots with basic resources will make things work, and the Haves will keep making things not work: until it gets too expensive (VAT).

The Haves are covering the planet with poisons and landfills full of plastic diapers and yacht parts under the premise that The Economy is everything.

Nobody is looking for ways to pay people to be useful to their places, and now the place is going to burn us out.
