The rich get richer because we (by choice or default) work for them to buy their stuff because it is more convenient to do so than to make or grow our own stuff. Our world, our climate, our morality has been commodified and replaced by the convenience of consumptionism.
The solution is to put the actual cost of everything at the decision point: the checkouts. The Left won't do it because they think "progressivism" is taxing the rich (who shouldn't be that rich in the first place). The Right won't do it (even though some of them proposed the mechanism: HR25) because corporations love the 'freedom' they get from buying favors with the income tax code.
The bunkers won't protect anyone. The Rich don't have any advantage when the economy collapses: just a little longer to suffer behind walls that will eventually have to be breached.
Competitive, fanatical consumerism has convinced people that they are all individuals who can somehow exist competitively without the structure of communities.
