The term I have used is “Net Future Usefulness”. A species survives or goes extinct based on its useful contribution to its own future and the future of its environment. In the long run, simplified, it’s the ratio between generosity and consumption/extraction. Schroedinger described Life as the anti-Entropy. Humans have only had electricity for about 100 years. Matter has had electric charges for 14 billion years. It’s pretty egotistical to think it’s all about us.
