The underlying missed part of all the philosophers is that there's no definition of what humans are or what the role of our species is on the planet. The anthropocentric selfishness of our System of systems can only lead to collapse because, whether liberal or conservative, it's always about extraction of resources (competitively or collectively), not about useful contribution to the place we are dependent on. As long as everything is determined by the uberspecies' desires, then overshoot and collapse will follow. Blaming one aspect (economic freedom) on a limited group is easy enough, but civilization itself (city-based isolation from resources and risks) has never stopped feeling superior to the environment that spawned it.
