Then you'll probably want to stay away from Derrick Jensen's writing. To paraphrase, "Hope is what keeps people from fighting back. It makes each step toward destruction into a minor choice: get in a truck or get shot. Step through a gate or get shot. Enter the 'shower' or get shot." Without Hope, we might not give enough fucks to worry about getting shot, so we fight and take the risks sooner, when the odds are better. A democratic republic is supposed to substitute elections for revolutions, but the money has gotten too good to allow real change anymore. People who don't have much will make things work. People who have too much make things not work. Americans that run things have had too much for too long. Nature doesn't like top-heavy wasteful systems. Climate change is eroding hope, but Denial hasn't reached Anger stage yet.
