To subdivide it a little bit more: Half the country voted for guns (killing) and against abortions (different killing), while the other half voted for Consumerism (tax the rich to buy cars for the poor) and cities (democracy by numbers: more consumerism). Neither party presented leaders willing to question the Invisible Hand Job (fanatical competicism over competing fanaticisms), civilization (city based extractionism/colonialism), religion (competitive exclusionary identoties) or the military industrial jobs machinery that's in a vicious partnership with fossil fuel fanatics.
Nobody really voted against democracy: but everyone voted for a special brand of ignorance and suicide.
