Too many people get caught up in a fight about diversty vs dominant paradigms, but the real goal is to have a species/society that cooperates with the environment that it depends on. Up until now, humans have gotten away with building walls between our "progress" and outside threats. There are no more virgin territories for walled cities or nations to conquer and extract resources for perpetual growth, so we have to either reverse our blind competition/selfish procedures and become generous to places (and people closest to places) or die off. We're all just folk now in the same big Petri dish. The question of immigration and borders comes down to imagining new ways for places to thrive with anyone willing to contribute. We have to find new ways to make it easier for people to seek usefulness and discourage extraction. Those who encourage finger pointing need to lose some of their power (or fingers). They keep creating bigger resentments and wider separations: turning tribes into gangs and competitions into wars because escalation sells their finger pointing.
