Unfettered capitalism is the problem. The opposite of unfettered capitalism is sales tax, not socialism.

All of the rich capital flows are driven by decisions made at checkouts. UBI based on sales tax balances those drivers.

Socialism comes into play AFTER the monetary choices are redistributed to empower individuals in a monetized economic system. Guilt, education, bureaucratic incentives and technology won't address the nature of people to make decisions based on the money in their pocket vs. the cost of goods. If we allow corporations to continue the deception of "always low prices", then the destruction of future environments will continue.

It's the prices at the decision point that determine the shape of the economy and the choices people live by.
