Voting is already mandatory. It’s called “Consumerism”, and the votes are counted daily and passed on to ‘elected’ leaders through lobbyists, directly to the war machine that “protects American interests”: interests that are determined by the massively coerced spending of citizens who have no idea how much each purchase really costs them.

You only really need one change. Get rid of externalization of costs and put ALL government costs into sales taxes. That way, everyone knows what they are really getting paid for their labors and they pay what it really costs to have ‘convenience’ instead of usefulness.

Want it to be fair and progressive? Give everyone a check for the same amount of money to cover the taxes on food and basic needs.

You can’t legislate people to do the right thing, but you can make it harder to do the wrong things. The way to do that is to give them all of the information about their choices.

The opposite of capitalism is not socialism: it’s sales tax, which is a lot less regressive than a dead planet.

Our government is corrupt because our economic model is corrupt. People don’t function well as consumers. They need useful work and engagement with their basic environmental life so that they can contribute more than they take.

‘Fixing’ the election vote process doesn’t fix the real votes: the dollars that are based on extracting resources from our grandchildren’s future. Everything those dollars touch is corrupted because they represent human labors going the wrong way in the ecosystem.
