We start by doing human things; cooperating instead of competing, contributing instead of consuming, supporting instead of exploiting. A good start is to always put immediate feedback/information at decision points (i.e. sales tax), so that our clever brains don't immediately think that the cheapest or convenient way is an easy choice.
