They enjoy the evaporating rewards of a system bent on destroying everything at an ever-accelerating rate.

Embracing the doom doesn't mean embracing the system causing it, but to embrace its collapse.

Yes, it means there will be billions of deaths of people that exist only due to the luxuries of cheap energy and cheap food.

The science and technologies exist to keep everyone alive by redistributing them to the land with an eye toward caring for the land with their hands, but humanity is not going to surrender its 'supremacy' to microbes of the soil.

Until it has no other choice.

It may already be too late even for that, considering the methane hydrates and latent heat bombs we have created.

I encourage the optimists to try and keep their optimism, just as I encourage the churches around me who feed the poor and pick up litter and support community building. I don't expect them to give up their Building Fund or the missionary work, though. Someone will always be there to teach the uncivilized not to eat salesmen, and to take advantage of the human tendency to believe in stupid shit.
