Well, since most energy is being used to support an extractive competition to buy stuff, the solution seems to be inventing a new competition to put stuff back (especially people back on land). Since most will have no interest in physical labor, they can stay in sinking cities trying to build vertical farms and aquaculture. Maybe they will develop gills by 2050.
