You left out the thing that links the plastic people, selfish absorption, billionaires, poverty wages, garbage vortex oceans and racism/misogyny/nationalism/war:

Fanatical competition over competing fanaticisms.

It’s the economy of blind, stupid, bullying competition not only between each other, but against the planet that spawned us.

“He said! She said!” Fuck 'em all. Sometimes a thing gets broke and can’t be fixed. Sure, we can hope and try, but the wrong people are in charge of the wrong systems, making decisions based on a completely backward economic system of existence. Humanity has become a bug, not a feature, and no amount of navel gazing about what we have done is going to find out how to end our consumption-based societies. There’s just no profit for our prophets in ending civilization (city-based extractive economics).

Why am I so sure?

Because I know the things that need to be done and the tools necessary to do them. I’m drawing up a list, but nobody with the wherewithal will do any of even the easiest items.
