Well, you've covered the science class very well and correlations to output activities. Now, let's move on to the Cause and awareness aspect. First, civilization is an evolutionary cul de sac; we're stuck up a colonialism one way street in a cement SUV (nod to JHKunstler). No economist is going to admit that we have too many economists and that Efficiency is the straightest road to suicidal production Hell. Our cleverness has already killed life and climate as we knew it; we're just waiting for the wars to knock us over.
Second, it's never been a "carbon problem"; the real problem is mindless consumerism-colonialism. AKA The Invisible Selfish Hand Job that only exists within the city-based extraction system of competitive hubris. We are at war against Nature in our short-sighted and stupid existence while survival is a long game that requires cooperative, symbiotic contribution, not unfettered competitive consumption.
The real problem is that we built walls around our awareness and assigned all decisions about value and wealth to Money. Cleverness created cheap food and cheap energy with cheap technology enabling more destruction at less and less effort or cost. The only feedback we know is a "price" at a purchase point that has been manipulated to hide real costs along with easy credit that enslaves our future self to increasingly more of the same.
All of the scientific reasoning is useless as long as prices are low. Even if we had green energy, we would just use it to consume some other cheap resource or people.
