Why do the banks get the extra money (raising interest rates to control inflation) instead of the people (raise taxes and then use the money for UBI)?

During World War II, the argument was made that to stop inflation, income taxes were needed so that the increased flow of money in the system would go to the war effort instead of corporate profits.

Who put the banks in the loop at all when it comes to making decisions about inflation?

Yes, my question is rhetorical.

Civilization is dead and hasn't fallen over yet.

Humanity has been creating debt (promises to burn resources in the future) to have cash for burning resources now. We have not been creating resources to prevent debts to physical reality.

Wars are the tantrums of toddlers who don't get to have what they want.

Nature is the adult that will end the fights, but the punishment is going to be worse than anyone has seen before.
