Your post caught my eye because I have wondered this, also. Lately, I am more intrigued by the question because of the way we accept devaluing ourselves as humans out of habit. Not just sexually, but through violence, employment, conformity to groups we hate, etc. I think that the competitive sexuality falls under a Wendell Barry quote, “In a competitive society, we inevitably get fewer and fewer winners and more and more losers.” This wouldn’t be all that bad in a Paleo environment, but in the modern world, there is no natural, reality-based selection process. People selected for artificial qualities lead to increasingly artificial people. Very profitable for the fashion industry, though.
