I have a couple of mantras, but I think the one that fits this article best in explaining how obtuse the US version of 'democracy' really is goes like this, "We don't need health insurance; we need good health."

The failure of our leadership becomes obvious when we ask, "What are our leaders doing to improve our health and functionality as people?" instead of asking, "What is the government doing to pay our bills?"
