You're welcome. "Teaching the ape" implies intentionality, but in most of human history, the only truly intentional behaviors we accomplish involve forming groups to overcome our lizard instincts. That's really where the individuating systems of consumerism take over. Advertising convinces individuals that they are acting consciously with a group because of a brand, but they are really just responding to stimuli. With an entire system based on competition, the cashflow from the stress is incredible. Most people are absolutely unaware of the value created on top of their manipulated stress, misery and perpetual pursuit of so-called happiness. That's why most don't believe that humans can cause global warming: we are kept in the cattle chutes of civilization's consumer feedlots: away from the farms, mines, wells, sewage plants and wars. Taxes and costs are externalised or taken before we see our real price or payments. As much as humanity believes in its sentience, our competitive systems evolved for repressing it. Parents and teachers are tools for this system and their brains are broken by it.
