Perhaps this movement away from my teenage self represents not an obliteration of ideals, as I had worried, but creation of a new system of values. Perhaps, in place of the action-driven identity I once fostered, I am moving towards an ethos of authenticity, however uninspired and pragmatic that may feel at times.
Yup. It’s called “adulting”. Too bad more people aren’t allowed to find it in today’s neotonistic system of marketed ‘individuals’ who are just like all of the other ones: trying to prove who they are to imaginary friends (or sky puppeteers) doing the same and all self-flagellating for not meeting those expectations, or afraid to change their mind about some issue or another. It’s OK to be someone other than you used to be. Better to do it yourself than get kicked in the head to forget (radical change metaphor: don’t try it literally).
