Yup. This is why I skip to the end of the chase and ask what is really wrong with human civilization. The answer is simply "consumptionism: the belief that we don’t have to pay Nature or even our future selves for the resources we consume". It is driven by ignorance of costs at the decision points and ignorance of the individual’s real value to a place/nation. Ergo, I keep harping about UBI paid from sales tax.
Religions are just another sales pitch for a product that is never tested or produced. Like today's "influencers", there's no There there: people trade on the price of the price of an imagined future with no responsibility to their place. Modern monetary theory is colonialism without having to build an actual colony in malarial swamps: just as religions sell an afterlife. If people ever had to pay the true costs, it would all collapse.
